Who We Are

Calloway & Whitfield opened for business in January 2026. Before that, our founders spent a combined twenty-two years placing excess and surplus lines business at national wholesale brokerages. We learned the markets, the underwriting, and the paperwork. We also watched too many good agents wait a week for a callback because their submission was not big enough to matter to anyone.

So we built the shop we always wanted to work with. Every submission gets read by an underwriter the day it arrives. When you write to us about a risk, the reply comes from the person actually working on it. We are small on purpose, and we plan to grow the same way we started: one agent, one account at a time.

Our whole team works here in the US, though a couple of us originally came from the UK and India before settling into the American market. Different markets teach you different habits, and we think the mix makes our underwriting sharper.

Who We Serve

We work only with licensed retail insurance agents and brokers. We do not sell insurance to the public. Our agency partners range from single-office shops to regional agencies across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia. Most of them came to us with one stubborn risk and stayed for everything else.

If you have a client the standard market keeps turning away, that is exactly the business we want to see.

Lines of Business

All commercial, all placed through your agency. If you don't see a class listed below, ask anyway. The answer is usually yes.

General Liability

Artisan contractors are our bread and butter. Roofers, framers, electricians, painters, and the other trades most markets shy away from. New ventures welcome.

Commercial Property

Vacant buildings, older construction, short-term occupancies, and properties with prior losses. We know which markets will actually look at them.

Excess & Umbrella

Follow-form and standalone excess over our own placements or your client's existing primary. Limits typically up to $10 million.

Commercial Auto

Local and intermediate haul trucking, contractor fleets, and tow operations. Monoline auto considered.

Professional Liability & E&O

Consultants, property managers, staffing firms, and the miscellaneous classes that never quite fit a standard application.

Liquor Liability

Bars, taverns, restaurants, and package stores. Monoline or packaged with general liability where the market allows.

Cyber for Small Business

Straightforward cyber and privacy coverage for main street businesses, with applications short enough that your client will actually finish one.

Our Markets

We hold brokerage relationships with more than 25 carriers writing on both admitted and non-admitted paper, most rated A- or better by AM Best. A smaller market list means we know each underwriter's appetite firsthand, so your submission goes where it has a real shot instead of everywhere at once.

Every quote we send back names the carrier, the paper, and the rating, so you and your client know exactly what you are buying before you bind.

Submissions & Agency Appointments

Getting appointed is simple. There is no volume commitment and no fee. Tell us a little about your agency or the risk you are working on, and we will be in touch within one business day.
